Trump Directs DHS to Stay Away from Protests in Democrat Cities

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has directed the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to withdraw from demonstrations in Democratic-controlled municipalities as nationwide rallies against US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) intensify.

Friday's "National Shutdown" mobilized organizers calling on Americans to boycott employment, education, and commerce—a coordinated strike designed to force the government to halt immigration enforcement operations. In Los Angeles, the action devolved into violent confrontations with law enforcement and federal personnel, culminating in protesters seizing an ICE facility. Eugene, Oregon witnessed parallel unrest where demonstrators stormed a federal building and maintained occupation.

Posting to Truth Social Saturday, Trump announced he had "instructed Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, that under no circumstances are we going to participate in various poorly run Democrat Cities with regard to their Protests and/or Riots unless, and until, they ask us for help."

He continued: "We will, however, guard, and very powerfully so, any and all Federal Buildings that are being attacked… I have instructed ICE and/or Border Patrol to be very forceful in this protection of Federal Government Property."

Trump maintained that state governments bear primary accountability for safeguarding both municipal and federal infrastructure, with Washington serving solely as reinforcement.

"If local governments are unable to handle the Insurrectionists, Agitators, and Anarchists, we will immediately go to the location where such help is requested and take care of the situation very easily and methodically," he declared, cautioning that federal agencies—and "if necessary, our Military"—would deploy aggressively should federal installations face attack.

The current protest surge stems from mounting fury over the deadly shootings of two American citizens, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, by federal agents during recent enforcement actions in Minneapolis.

US House Democrats this week demanded Noem's resignation, insisting the bloodshed "must end forthwith." Trump rallied behind his DHS chief, asserting she faces criticism solely because she "has done a really GREAT JOB."
